Prepare the Bread
- Cut the challah or brioche into thick slices or cubes. Place them evenly in a greased baking dish.
Make the Custard
- In a large bowl, crack the eggs. Add milk, cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg Whisk everything until smooth.
Soak the Bread
- Pour the custard over the bread. Press the bread gently so it absorbs the liquid. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.
Make the Streusel Topping
- In a bowl, mix Flour, Brown sugar, Cinnamon and Salt. Add cold butter cubes and rub with your fingers until crumbly.
Bake the Casserole
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) Sprinkle the streusel evenly on top. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes until golden brown and set
Serve and Enjoy
- Let it cool for a few minutes. Top with powdered sugar, maple syrup, or fresh berries.
