For the French Toast
  • Heavy cream – 1 cup
  • Brown sugar – ¼ cup
  • Challah or brioche bread – 1 loaf sliced thick
  • Vanilla extract – 1 tbsp
  • Eggs – 8 large
  • Nutmeg – ¼ tsp
  • Whole milk – 2 cups
  • Ground cinnamon – 1 tsp
  • Granulated sugar – ½ cup
Streusel Topping
  • Salt – a pinch
  • Unsalted butter – ½ cup
  • Brown sugar – ½ cup
  • All-purpose flour – ½ cup
  • Ground cinnamon – 1 tsp
For Toppings
  • Powdered sugar – for dusting
  • Fresh berries – for garnish

Method
 

Prepare the Bread
  1. Cut the challah or brioche into thick slices or cubes. Place them evenly in a greased baking dish.
Make the Custard
  1. In a large bowl, crack the eggs. Add milk, cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg Whisk everything until smooth.
Soak the Bread

  1. In a bowl, mix Flour, Brown sugar, Cinnamon and Salt. Add cold butter cubes and rub with your fingers until crumbly.
